Opening and Closing Checklists

Image
Opening and Closing Checklists for Booth Renters One habit I have tried to incorporate is to have a routine for opening and closing. To help me do this, I have created two checklists: opening and closing. Having a routine helps me in many ways. To stay organized, create a welcoming environment for my clients, and make sure nothing gets overlooked. Whether you are new to renting a booth or have been doing it for years, having a routine and a checklist can create a calming atmosphere and make your workday flow much more smoothly. Why Checklists Matter When running your own beauty business, there are so many responsibilities to keep track of. You have appointments, inventory, cleaning, and client communication, it can be very easy to forget something. Using a checklist helps to: Keep your space clean and professional Makes you prepared for the day Reduce your stress and lower mental clutter Create consistency in your business Save time by following the same routine every day My Opening Ch...

My Cosmetology Story: From Salon Kid to Licensed Professional

My Cosmetology Journey: How I Knew This Was the Career for Me Have you ever been asked how you got started in the beauty industry? As I’ve been reflecting on my career lately, I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about how I became a cosmetologist and what inspired me to pursue this path. Falling in Love with Beauty Growing up, I always loved everything related to the beauty and fashion industry. In fact, before I decided to become a cosmetologist, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I loved the creativity involved in fashion and beauty, and I knew I wanted a career where I could express that creativity every day. While my career path ended up looking different from what I originally imagined, I’m grateful for where it led me. The Salon That Started It All One of the biggest influences in my journey was my cousin, Jamie. As a little girl, I spent a lot of time at her salon. I loved being there and watching her work with clients.  Looking back, those visits played...

Showing Faith in the Salon

Image
Small Ways We Create a Welcoming Environment One of the things I appreciate most about the salon where I booth rent is the welcoming atmosphere we’ve created. While every salon is different, our salon reflects our Christian faith in simple ways through our decor, the music we play, and even some of the clothing we choose to wear. My faith in God is an important part of my life, and if you know me personally you know that. I am grateful to work in an environment where I can openly express that faith. While beauty services are at the center of what we do, I believe faith can influence how we treat others, serve our clients, and approach our work each day. Creating a Positive Atmosphere One of the easiest ways to make clients feel comfortable is by creating a positive environment. A friendly greeting, a warm smile, and genuine conversation can go a long way toward helping someone feel welcome. These kind gestures can lead to first time clients becoming repeat clients, which in ...

Polished Beauty Turns 2: Reflecting on Two Amazing Years

Image
Today, my booth rental salon business, Polished Beauty, is two years old! For weeks leading up to this day, I have been thinking, "WOW! I can't believe I have been running my own business for two years! So much has changed." Now that the day is here, I am thinking of how much has changed, not just over the last two years, but how I have changed from my first year in the beauty industry. I have grown so much in my business and as a person in so many ways. I am looking forward to what is in store for Polished Beauty in the future! How Polished Beauty Began I started planning Polished Beauty at the end of May 2024, when I decided to leave my first job ever, the first salon I worked at, the place I feel like I grew up. I had worked there for six years, and it was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. Back then, without going into detail, I felt that it was my time to move on and pursue other avenues, and reflecting back, I am incredibly happy that I made the decisi...

Organization as a Booth Renter

Image
How I Stay Organized as a Booth Renter One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since becoming a booth renter is that organization plays a huge role in how smoothly my days run. When you’re managing your own schedule, supplies, cleaning, and client experience, having systems in place can make all the difference. While I’m always finding new ways to improve, there are a few things that help me stay organized and keep my booth running efficiently. Keeping My Schedule Organized One of the most important tools in my business is Square. I use Square to manage my appointments and keep track of my schedule. Having everything in one place helps me stay organized and prepared for each day. Since I use Square for my appointment keeping, that is also where I take payments, and have my payroll information for myself. Keep in mind there is a free Square plan or a plan you pay monthy for, currently I use the free plan and I like it. I like to review my upcoming appointments the night befo...

5 Things Every New Booth Renter Should Know

Making the transition to booth renting is exciting, but if I'm being honest, it can also be a little intimidating. After spending nearly six years in a commission salon before making the switch, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the beauty industry. While that experience gave me a strong foundation, I quickly learned that booth renting comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Looking back, there are a few things I wish someone had told me before I took the leap. If you're considering booth renting or have recently started your journey, I hope these lessons help you feel more prepared and confident. 1. You're Not Just a Beauty Professional Anymore—You're a Business Owner One of the biggest surprises for me was realizing how much happens behind the scenes when you're booth renting. Suddenly, you're responsible for scheduling appointments, tracking expenses, ordering products, marketing your services, and planning for taxes. While it ...
